In Vanuatu, biodiversity is our food, our culture, our tradition, our money, our medicine, our shelter, our protector, and our pride. It sustains our livelihoods, secures our coasts, and connects our people to land and sea. Our forests, rivers, reefs, and oceans are not separate from who we are, they define our way of life and safeguard our resilience in the face of a changing climate.
The revised Vanuatu National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) 2025–2030 renews our national commitment to conserve, sustainably use, and equitably share the benefits of our unique biodiversity. It builds on the foundation of earlier NBSAPs while aligning with the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), guiding us toward the 2050 Vision of “Living in Harmony with Nature.” The revised NBSAP reflects Vanuatu’s leadership on climate change, ocean, and biodiversity diplomacy, championing action to protect our Blue Continent and the natural systems that sustain life across our islands.
The revision process, led by the Department of Environmental Protection and Conservation (DEPC), has been a truly whole-of-government and whole-of-society effort. The NBSAP Working Group, composed of representatives from Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Water, Lands, and other sectors, worked closely with provincial governments, NGOs, civil society, private sector actors, and development partners. Extensive community consultations and validation workshops were conducted across all six provinces, ensuring that the voices, knowledge, and priorities of our people are reflected in every strategic area of this plan.
Vanuatu hereby submits its reviewed and updated NBSAP (Vanuatu's Biodiversity Plan) - “Our Biodiversity is our Life, our strength, and our future”
