Elements of GBF Target 2 covered: Dominica’s National Target 2 covers the main quantitative and ecosystem-scope elements of GBF Target 2 by committing to restore at least 30% of degraded terrestrial, freshwater, coastal and marine ecosystems by 2030, with priority given to watersheds, riparian zones, mangroves and reefs. It also strengthens the national target by explicitly using NbS and EbA and encouraging community co-management.
Partial project-level reference data are available for Indicator 2.1. The most relevant reference periods are 2019–2026 for the Sustainable Land Management in the Commonwealth of Dominica project and 2015/2017 onward for the national reforestation programme, with 2020 to the latest available year recommended for 7NR reporting. Available data include restoration-related targets such as SLM approaches on 2,000 ha of farmland and watershed restoration covering 4,000 ha, as well as national reforestation activities. However, Dominica has not yet compiled a complete national, geospatially explicit restoration database covering all degraded terrestrial, freshwater, coastal and marine ecosystems. Future reporting should establish a degraded ecosystem baseline, define restoration areas and ecosystem types, and consolidate project-level data to avoid double-counting.
