Panama’s Nature Pledge (Pacto de Panamá con la Naturaleza) is a high-level national framework that articulates the country’s long-term vision for the integrated implementation of its commitments under the three Rio Conventions, with a strong emphasis on biodiversity conservation, sustainable use of ecosystems, and nature-based solutions.

The Nature Pledge serves as an overarching strategic umbrella that aligns Panama’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP), Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), and Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) targets into a coherent, sequenced and results-oriented approach for the period 2026–2035. It prioritizes ecosystem integrity, protection and restoration of biodiversity-rich landscapes, sustainable production systems, and the strengthening of governance, financing, and monitoring mechanisms to ensure effective implementation.

In the biodiversity dimension, the Nature Pledge contributes directly to the objectives of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, supporting national efforts on ecosystem conservation, restoration, sustainable use, mainstreaming of biodiversity across sectors, and inclusive governance with the participation of Indigenous Peoples, local communities, women and youth.
