GBF-T10.
Unsustainable agriculture, aquaculture, and fisheries practices significantly threaten biodiversity by leading to habitat destruction, pollution, and the overexploitation of natural resources. The conversion of forests and wetlands into agricultural land results in the loss and fragmentation of habitats, which are critical for numerous species, thereby driving biodiversity decline. Intensive farming methods often rely on harmful pesticides and fertilizers that contaminate soil and waterways, further degrading ecosystems and harming non-target organisms. Additionally, practices such as overfishing and unsustainable aquaculture disrupt aquatic ecosystems, depleting fish stocks and altering food webs. This combination of habitat loss, pollution, and resource depletion creates a vicious cycle that not only endangers wildlife but also undermines the ecosystem services essential for human survival, such as clean water, pollination, and climate regulation. Therefore, transitioning to sustainable practices is crucial to mitigate these impacts and preserve biodiversity for future generations.
