Jordan’s national targets address several key elements of GBF Goal B, particularly those related to sustainable management of wild species (Targets 5 and 9), sustainable agriculture and ecosystem-based approaches (Target 10 and Target 11), the enhancement of ecosystem services (Target 12), restoration of degraded ecosystems (Target 2), protected areas (Target 3), pollution reduction (Target 7), management of invasive alien species (Target 6), and integrated spatial planning (Target 1). These national targets collectively help maintain, enhance, and restore biodiversity, supporting people and nature-based resilience.
However, several elements of the global targets remain insufficiently addressed. These include the lack of quantitative commitments for ecosystem service valuation and integration into national accounting (Target 14), absence of GBF-level pollution reduction thresholds (Target 7), no specific actions on genetic diversity for food and agriculture (Target 13), limited focus on equitable benefit-sharing from sustainable use (Targets 5 and 9), lack of measurable benchmarks for ecosystem service improvements (Targets 2 and 12), and absence of detailed urban biodiversity indicators (Target 12). These represent key gaps requiring further development in future iterations of national targets and monitoring frameworks.
