The national targets address GBF Target 3 by establishing and effectively managing a network of protected areas, OECMs, and community-managed no-take zones covering terrestrial, coastal, and marine ecosystems. The commitment to protect and manage 35% of national ecosystems exceeds the global 30% benchmark, while fisheries sustainability measures and no-take nursery zones support effective conservation outcomes, ecological recovery, and long-term viability of conserved areas.
The reference period of the Gambia's NBSAP aims to reach this target by 2035.
