The national targets address GBF Goal B by promoting the sustainable use of biodiversity and maintaining and enhancing nature’s contributions to people through biodiversity-friendly agriculture, fisheries, forestry, and ecosystem restoration. This includes reducing harmful pesticide use through IPM (Target 6.2), improving the sustainability of fish stocks and protecting nursery areas through no-take zones (Targets 3.1 and 3.2), restoring forests, mangroves, wetlands, and riparian buffers to enhance ecosystem services such as water regulation, coastal protection, and food security (Targets 2.1, 4.1, 4.2, 5.1), implementing ecosystem-based adaptation to reduce climate vulnerability (Target 9.1), reducing pollution pressures affecting ecosystem services (Target 8.1), expanding climate-smart agroforestry (Target 5.2), enhancing carbon sequestration through nature-based solutions (Target 9.2), and supporting biodiversity-positive alternative livelihoods for communities adjacent to protected areas (Target 11.2).
The reference period of the Gambia's NBSAP aims to reach this target by 2035.
