Jordan’s national targets address several core components of GBF Target 10, particularly those related to promoting sustainable agriculture, safeguarding ecosystems from pollution, strengthening ecosystem resilience, and reducing the impacts of invasive alien species. These national targets contribute to advancing the global target by encouraging biodiversity-friendly production systems, improving ecosystem health, and enhancing the long-term sustainability of agriculture, aquaculture, and forestry practices. They also support better land-use outcomes through integrated spatial planning and ecosystem restoration, which indirectly strengthen the sustainable management of productive landscapes.
However, several critical elements of the global target remain insufficiently addressed. The national targets do not specify quantitative measures to reduce unsustainable agricultural practices, nor do they include indicators to halt the conversion of natural ecosystems for agriculture, minimize ecosystem impacts from fertilizers and chemicals, or ensure full sustainability across fisheries and aquaculture systems. The targets also lack explicit commitments to reduce biodiversity loss from forestry operations, improve soil health, or regulate high-impact agricultural subsidies. These gaps mean that Jordan’s national targets only partially reflect the full scope and ambition of GBF Target 10.
