Jordan’s national targets address several core components of GBF Target 12, particularly expanding urban green and blue infrastructure, enhancing ecosystem services for human well-being, reducing pollution in urban environments, and restoring degraded ecosystems to improve urban biodiversity and connectivity. These national targets contribute directly to improving access to nature in cities, increasing the availability of green and blue public spaces, and strengthening nature-based resilience within urban areas, which support the overall objectives of GBF Target 12.
However, several critical elements of the global target remain insufficiently addressed. The national targets do not specify quantitative indicators for increasing per-capita green and blue space, equitable access for all population groups, or minimum thresholds for urban nature coverage. They also do not address aspects such as integrating biodiversity into municipal zoning regulations, ensuring connectivity of urban ecological corridors, or monitoring the quality and safety of urban public green spaces. These gaps mean that Jordan’s national targets only partially reflect the full scope and ambition of GBF Target 12.
