[1] The United Kingdom does not have indigenous peoples, or indigenous and local communities as understood under the Convention on Biological Diversity. However, in accordance with the Convention and the relevant provisions of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, recognising the important roles and contributions of indigenous peoples and local communities as custodians of biodiversity, the UK in its international engagements remains committed to promoting the effective participation and inclusion of indigenous peoples and local communities, including their traditional knowledge, innovations and practices, with their free, prior and informed consent, in the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of biological diversity.
