By 2030, ensure at least 20% (to be reviewed after the baseline assessment) of areas under aquaculture, fisheries, forestry, and agriculture are sustainably managed, including through sustainable use, certification mechanisms, the application of spatial planning, and other biodiversity-friendly and innovative approaches and agro-ecological practices; regenerative agriculture, precision farming, integrated pest management

GBF-T02. 30% of degraded areas are under effective restoration GBF-T02. 30% of degraded areas are under effective restorationEnsure that by 2030 at least 30 per cent of areas of degraded terrestrial, inland water, and coastal and marine ecosystems are under effective restoration, in order to enhance biodiversity and ecosystem functions and services, ecological integrity and connectivity. | Medium |
GBF-T03. 30% of areas are effectively conserved GBF-T03. 30% of areas are effectively conservedEnsure and enable that by 2030 at least 30 per cent of terrestrial, inland water, and of coastal and marine areas, especially areas of particular importance for biodiversity and ecosystem functions and services, are effectively conserved and managed through ecologically representative, well-connected and equitably governed systems of protected areas and other effective area-based conservation measures, recognizing indigenous and traditional territories where applicable, and integrated into wider landscapes, seascapes and the ocean, while ensuring that any sustainable use, where appropriate in such areas, is fully consistent with conservation outcomes, recognizing and respecting the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities, including over their traditional territories. | Medium |
GBF-T07. Pollution reduced, halving nutrient loss and pesticide risk GBF-T07. Pollution reduced, halving nutrient loss and pesticide riskReduce pollution risks and the negative impact of pollution from all sources, by 2030, to levels that are not harmful to biodiversity and ecosystem functions and services, considering cumulative effects, including: reducing excess nutrients lost to the environment by at least half including through more efficient nutrient cycling and use; reducing the overall risk from pesticides and highly hazardous chemicals by at least half including through integrated pest management, based on science, taking into account food security and livelihoods; and also preventing, reducing, and working towards eliminating plastic pollution. | Medium |
GBF-T08. Minimize impacts of climate change and ocean acidification including through nature-based solutions and/or ecosystem-based approaches GBF-T08. Minimize impacts of climate change and ocean acidification including through nature-based solutions and/or ecosystem-based approachesMinimize the impact of climate change and ocean acidification on biodiversity and increase its resilience through mitigation, adaptation, and disaster risk reduction actions, including through nature-based solution and/or ecosystem-based approaches, while minimizing negative and fostering positive impacts of climate action on biodiversity. | Medium |
GBF-T11. Nature’s contributions to people are restored, maintained and enhanced GBF-T11. Nature’s contributions to people are restored, maintained and enhancedRestore, maintain and enhance nature’s contributions to people, including ecosystem functions and services, such as regulation of air, water, and climate, soil health, pollination and reduction of disease risk, as well as protection from natural hazards and disasters, through nature-based solutions and/or ecosystem-based approaches for the benefit of all people and nature. | High |
GBF-T10. Areas under agriculture, aquaculture, fisheries and forestry are managed sustainably GBF-T10. Areas under agriculture, aquaculture, fisheries and forestry are managed sustainablyEnsure that areas under agriculture, aquaculture, fisheries and forestry are managed sustainably, in particular through the sustainable use of biodiversity, including through a substantial increase of the application of biodiversity friendly practices, such as sustainable intensification, agroecological and other innovative approaches contributing to the resilience and long-term efficiency and productivity of these production systems and to food security, conserving and restoring biodiversity and maintaining nature’s contributions to people, including ecosystem functions and services . |
Ecosystem approach ,Whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach and science and innovation considerations ensures integrated management of ecosystems promotion with active participation of all segments of society including individuals ,communities businesses, NGOS and other stakeholders for sustainable use of recourses reducing human induced pressure contributing to ecosystem degradation. all this is aligned to government policies ,circumstances ,priorities and capabilities.
Target 2:There is a significant need to ensure that all areas under degradation or threats of degradation are under or in the process of restoration, particularly areas that have been mapped to be under high threat of biodiversity loss such as farmlands, forests, protected areas, rangelands and inland waters. the strategic actions in target 10 address the same issues.
Target 3;The target sets out the protection and conservation of at least 30% of terrestrial and inland waters and coastal and marine waters and emphasizes areas of importance for biodiversity and ecosystem services. To achieve intended biodiversity conservation outcomes, these areas must be; effectively managed, and equitably governed through participation by different actors at different levels including decision-making and recognizing the rights of indigenous and local communities. target 10 puts emphasis on sustainable use and adoption of biodiversity friendly approaches which will contribute to the 30% target 3 aims at.
Target 7: The approaches in target 10 is aligned to reduce pollution ,check nutrient loss and reduce pesticide risks.
Target 8: Kenya being a nature-based economy, deliberate action is needed to ensure climate change actions are amplified to deliver social, economic and environmental benefits. Various mitigation, adaptation and disaster risk reduction measures, including nature-based solutions and/or ecosystem-based approaches, have the potential to increase the resilience of ecosystems and human livelihoods to the impacts of climate change, including reducing emissions from deforestation and other land-use changes, and by enhancing carbon sinks. These same guiding principles are applied in target 10.
