Strengthen Capacity-Building, Technology Transfer, and Scientific and Technical Cooperation for Biodiversity

Description

Strengthen capacity-building and development, access to and transfer of appropriate and affordable technology, and promote development of and access to innovation and technical and scientific cooperation, fostering collaborative technology development and collaborative scientific research programmes for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and strengthening scientific research and monitoring capacities.

These considerations were taken into account through a participatory and consultative process. The process involved an inception workshop, a series of stakeholder consultations, technical working group meetings, and validation workshops. The process was coordinated by the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife (MECW), through the Department of Wildlife and Forestry Resources Management.

Global Goal A – Ecosystem and Species Integrity

Strengthens scientific research, monitoring and technical capacity required to conserve, restore and sustainably manage ecosystems and species, thereby enhancing ecosystem integrity, connectivity and resilience.
Supports evidence-based biodiversity management by improving national capacity for biodiversity assessment, monitoring, reporting and adaptive management.
Facilitates the development and application of appropriate technologies that improve conservation effectiveness, including biodiversity monitoring tools, restoration techniques and ecosystem management innovations.

Global Goal B – Sustainable Use and Nature’s Contributions to People

Enables the sustainable use of biodiversity by promoting access to technologies and knowledge that improve resource efficiency, reduce environmental impacts and enhance productivity across biodiversity-dependent sectors.
Strengthens local and national capacities to apply biodiversity-friendly technologies that support livelihoods, food security, climate resilience and ecosystem services.
Enhances nature’s contributions to people by supporting innovation and applied research that improve the delivery of ecosystem services and socio-economic benefits.

Global Goal C – Fair and Equitable Benefit-Sharing

Promotes inclusive participation of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) in capacity-building, technology development and collaborative research programmes.
Supports equitable access to scientific knowledge, innovation and technological benefits arising from biodiversity research and conservation initiatives.
Facilitates recognition, protection and integration of traditional knowledge systems within scientific research and technology development processes.

Global Goal D – Means of Implementation and Enabling Conditions

Directly strengthens national enabling conditions for implementing the NBSAP and the KM-GBF by building human, institutional and technical capacity across sectors and levels.
Enhances technology transfer, innovation and scientific cooperation through national, regional and international partnerships.
Establishes collaborative research platforms, knowledge-sharing mechanisms and institutional partnerships that improve long-term implementation capacity.
Supports development and dissemination of tools, guidelines, training programmes and digital platforms essential for effective biodiversity governance.
