By 2030, halt the human-induced extinction of threatened species, reduce extinction risks and ensure the restoration of genetic diversity in wild and domesticated populations through in situ and ex situ conservation and sustainable management.
Policy: Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) Code (2023)
Actions: Cambodia will halt species extinction by strengthening in situ protection within Protected Areas and key biodiversity sites, enhancing enforcement against poaching and illegal wildlife trade, and implementing targeted species recovery plans for priority threatened taxa. Ex situ conservation and genetic safeguards will support critically endangered species. A national species monitoring system, including updated Red Listing and integration into CEMIS, will track extinction risk trends. Community-based conservation mechanisms and livelihood incentives will support stewardship, while habitat protection and threat reduction measures address key drivers of species decline.

GBF-T04. Threatened species are recovering, genetic diversity is being maintained and human-wildlife conflict is being managed GBF-T04. Threatened species are recovering, genetic diversity is being maintained and human-wildlife conflict is being managedEnsure urgent management actions to halt human induced extinction of known threatened species and for the recovery and conservation of species, in particular threatened species, to significantly reduce extinction risk, as well as to maintain and restore the genetic diversity within and between populations of native, wild and domesticated species to maintain their adaptive potential, including through in situ and ex situ conservation and sustainable management practices, and effectively manage human-wildlife interactions to minimize human-wildlife conflict for coexistence. | High |
The target is built around evidence-led recovery through monitoring, research partnerships, and structured recovery planning, reflecting a strong science and innovation orientation. Health considerations are integrated through actions that address pathogen spillover and human-wildlife interfaces as part of reducing extinction risk. The action plan also recognises the need for cooperation across institutions and sustained resources to implement recovery measures at scale.
Very close match to GBF framing (halt extinctions, reduce risk, restore genetic diversity via in situ and ex situ).
