National Target 4 (NT 4) aims to protect and preserve species and genetic diversity. The protection status of species in Indonesia is a vital component in addressing extinction risks and should be supported by a comprehensive conservation strategy. The National Red List, which is under development, will serve as an indicator for assessing threats in alignment with national priorities. This National Red List status will provide a valuable benchmark for establishing baselines and setting future management. This target can be measured through the achievement of one indicator and implemented through eight action groups.
The entities that will support the achievement of NT 4 are the Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut), the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan), the Ministry of Environment (KLH/BPLH), the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG), the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub), and Local Governments (Provincial and City/Regency), private sectors and non-state actors.
4.1. Inventory and monitoring of populations and habitat suitability of the targeted species;
4.2. Protection of the genetic diversity of targeted species;
4.3. Conservation and restoration of genetic diversity in domesticated species;
4.4. Ex situ conservation of species;
4.5. Management of human-wildlife and aquatic biota conflicts;
4.6. Risk extinction assessment and monitoring of selected taxa for national and ecoregional priorities;
4.7. Enhancing the management of protected, conserved, and/or utilized aquatic biodiversity; and
4.8. Maintenance and development of germplasm and livestock breeding units to preserve genetic resources.

GBF-T04. Threatened species are recovering, genetic diversity is being maintained and human-wildlife conflict is being managed GBF-T04. Threatened species are recovering, genetic diversity is being maintained and human-wildlife conflict is being managedEnsure urgent management actions to halt human induced extinction of known threatened species and for the recovery and conservation of species, in particular threatened species, to significantly reduce extinction risk, as well as to maintain and restore the genetic diversity within and between populations of native, wild and domesticated species to maintain their adaptive potential, including through in situ and ex situ conservation and sustainable management practices, and effectively manage human-wildlife interactions to minimize human-wildlife conflict for coexistence. | Medium |
The implementation of the target consistently be guided by the vision, mission, and principles outlined in the Indonesia Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (IBSAP) and National Long Term Development Plan (RPJP), which broadly align with all components of Section C of the KMGBF.
Most of the target elements have been covered. Although the timeline of Indonesia to achieve the target is 2045 according to National Long Term Development Plan, instead of 2030 as outlined in the KMGBF targets.
