By 2030, the management and use of wild species is sustainable for the benefit of people, ensuring social, economic and environmental benefits while enabling sustainable use by Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities.
Policy: Law on Fisheries (2025), Law on Forestry (2002), Law on Protected Areas (2008)
Actions: Cambodia will ensure sustainable management and use of wild species by strengthening community-based natural resource management mechanisms, including Community Forests, Community Protected Areas and Community Fisheries. Participatory zoning, updated management plans and community monitoring will regulate harvest levels and seasonal access. Livelihood diversification, sustainable value chains and ecotourism will reduce pressure on wild populations. Legal frameworks under forestry, fisheries and protected area laws will support customary use while improving compliance, enforcement and equitable benefit-sharing for Indigenous Peoples and local communities

GBF-T09. Management of wild species is sustainable and benefits people GBF-T09. Management of wild species is sustainable and benefits peopleEnsure that the management and use of wild species are sustainable, thereby providing social, economic and environmental benefits for people, especially those in vulnerable situations and those most dependent on biodiversity, including through sustainable biodiversity-based activities, products and services that enhance biodiversity, and protecting and encouraging customary sustainable use by indigenous peoples and local communities. |
This target is explicitly people-centred, linking sustainable wild species use to socio-economic benefits and thus reflecting the right to development and multiple value systems. The action plan invests in IPLC capacity, guidelines, and legal recognition of community conservation and use arrangements, embedding rights and local governance in implementation. It also implies coordinated enabling policy and oversight so use remains sustainable and equitable.
to be analyzed if we need to have additional means of implementation
