Elements of GBF Target 21 covered: Dominica’s National Target 21 addresses the generation of biodiversity data through a national inventory and baselines and the establishment of an open-access National Biodiversity Information System. It also covers accessibility to decision makers and the public and the use of biodiversity information for awareness, education, research, decision-making, monitoring and knowledge management. These provisions strongly address the data accessibility, information system, communication, education, research and monitoring components of GBF Target 21.
The reference period for headline indicator 21.1 is 2020 to the most recent year for which information is available. Dominica should establish a 2020 baseline by determining the number or percentage of GBF headline indicators for which adequate national or country-disaggregated biodiversity datasets, traditional knowledge and active monitoring schemes were available. The assessment should then be updated for the latest reporting year. Although relevant national and international information sources exist, Dominica has not yet published a nationally validated Indicator 21.1 baseline or time series, and this should be compiled through the Seventh National Report process.
