Elements of GBF Target 9 covered: Dominica’s National Target 9 addresses the sustainable use of wild species and links this use to food security, livelihoods and cultural values. It also includes benefit-sharing arrangements prioritizing local communities, thereby addressing important social and economic benefits and the needs of biodiversity-dependent communities.
A related proxy reference period is available from the 2001 and 2011 Population and Housing Censuses, with 2011 used as the latest published baseline. Dominica conducted a new Population and Housing Census in 2022, however, its data are not yet available. The official Kalinago Territory profile provides employment by occupational group, including skilled agricultural, forestry and fishery workers. However, these data do not constitute a complete calculation of the GBF indicator because they cover broad occupational categories among employed residents of the Kalinago Territory rather than the percentage of the working age Indigenous or national population practicing occupations involving traditional knowledge. A dedicated Kalinago/community survey or analysis of census microdata would be required to produce a validated indicator value.
