The Strategy is a key strategic document of the Czech Government, which sets national priorities in the field of protection and sustainable use of biological diversity in the Czech Republic. It follows on from the previous Strategy for the Protection of Biological Diversity in the Czech Republic for the period 2016–2025 and the State Programme for Nature and Landscape Protection in the Czech Republic for the period 2020–2025. 

The strategy serves as the main tool for implementing international and European commitments in the field of nature and landscape protection, while also defining long-term national priorities in biodiversity protection. Through defined long-term goals and measures set out in the Action Plan, it implements at national level the objectives of the EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2030 (EU Strategy), which aims to halt biodiversity loss in the EU and restore natural systems by 2030. The EU Strategy sets out specific commitments, such as expanding protected areas, restoring degraded ecosystems, reducing the use of plant protection products, in particular pesticides, and strengthening sustainable land management. The Czech Republic's strategy adopts these objectives and adapts them to national conditions, thereby contributing to the fulfilment of the common European vision. In particular, it implements the relevant objectives of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), adopted in 2022 at the fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP 15). 

The Strategy also redefines the framework for the implementation of the EU Nature Restoration Regulation, which aims to help restore damaged ecosystems, adapt the European landscape and settlements to the impacts of climate change, and strengthen food security.

Last but not least, the Strategy is based on the latest scientific knowledge on the state of biodiversity, the contributions of nature to humans, including ecosystem services, and climate impacts.
