The Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan has approved the Concept for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity for 2026–2035 a strategic document that defines the main directions of the country's state policy on nature conservation, the restoration of key ecosystems, and the sustainable use of biological diversity. The adoption of the Concept establishes the foundation for implementing the ambitious goals of the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, aimed at restoring harmony between people and nature by 2050. The Concept represents a contribution to the country's sustainable future and is the result of many years of consistent efforts by the Government, the scientific and expert community, as well as international partners. The document will serve as the basis for planning and implementing comprehensive measures for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. The Concept defines eight key national priorities, covering the expansion of the network of protected areas, the restoration and sustainable management of forest ecosystems, the conservation of the genetic diversity of wild flora and fauna, the restoration of degraded pastures and other ecosystems, the sustainable use of natural resources, as well as the strengthening of the systems of public administration, monitoring, and environmental education. The implementation of the Concept will strengthen Kazakhstan's national biodiversity conservation system, enhance ecosystem resilience to climate change, and ensure the preservation of the country's natural heritage for future generations.
